Constipation
from Fernandez:
Factors contributing to constipation include decreased physical activity, diminished intake of food and liquid, reduced force of abdominal muscle contractions, dysfunction of sphincters and side effects of antiparkinsonian medications (such as anticholinergic drugs). Exercise, muscle conditioning, fiber and medication use all play a role in relieving constipation. Psyllium and stool softeners should be tried first to regulate the bowel movement. If unsuccessful, lactulose can be added. Enemas, laxatives or disimpaction may occasionally be needed to produce bowel movements
